Technical Designer, Handbags

ANINE BING is seeking a Technical Designer specializing in handbags to join the team.

This individual will manage the technical product development process for handbags from initial design to final execution, ensuring fit, construction, and quality are consistent with ANINE BING’s standards.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented problem solver, relationship builder, and team player. They thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and have exceptional communication skills for engaging with all levels of management. They are passionate about craftsmanship and materials and driving technical innovation for handbag production.

This role is based out of our Paris HQ.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide factories with detailed technical specifications for handbags during development stages.
  • Lead fit and construction review sessions, analyze technical issues, and communicate accurate corrections to vendors.
  • Gather and organize post-review notes, collaborating with the Director of Technical Design to prioritize workload.
  • Work with factory patterns (paper or digital) to make critical technical adjustments using Illustrator/Photoshop.
  • Create and update technical blocks and guides in WFX, following the ANINE BING catalog for reference. Assign Points of Measure (P.O.M.) as needed.
  • Maintain and update the Handbag Technical Guide, ensuring alignment with ANINE BING standards.
  • Develop and release graded handbag specs at the pre-production approval stage, establishing grade rules for new categories as required.
  • Coordinate technical workflows, including managing Work-In-Progress (W.I.P.) and distributing review schedules.
  • Support vendor evaluations, fit model selection (if required), and the technical evaluation of materials and constructions for handbags.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years of technical design or fit technician experience specializing in handbags; knowledge of pattern making is a plus.
  • Expertise in handbag construction, materials, and functional design.
    Ability to identify technical issues in fit and construction and propose effective solutions.
  • Strong understanding of leather, textiles, and alternative materials used in handbag production.
  • Experience with Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Familiarity with WFX or similar PLM systems is a plus.
